Product Review: Avon Supershock Mascara

I mentioned ages ago that I would start doing unpaid reviews on products or services that I thought needed to be reviewed… so here is the first!

I am totally in love with this new mascara by Avon.

Supershock Mascara ($9.99) is their newest mascara and comes in your basic colours (navy, brown, black & black/brown) and promises the following:

Up to 12X more volume in only one step!

– Unique microfibres expand & plump lashes for unprecedented volume
– Thickening base coat and volumizing mascara in only one step
– Flexible bristles coat and separate lashes for a precise look that’s bolder than ever
– Does not glob!

And I have to say, I’m sold! At first blush this mascara actually scared me; it comes in a giant tube which is much fatter than your average mascara tube. The wand is also super-sized. The closest comparison would be the diameter of a Bic pen. I have no idea why they made it so large, but it seems to do the trick! After the initial fright of having something that large so close to my eye, I soon saw how good a job it does at making my lashes lovely.

It goes on clean and easy, and separates my lashes without clumping or gobbing. Far superior to my previous L’Oreal mascara. The formula is easy to build up for a more dramatic look, and has minimal flaking even though it includes microfibres. I don’t know if this is the right way to describe a mascara, but I felt…comfortable putting it on.

I was really pleased with the results, my eyes seemed brighter and more open, my lashes plumper, longer and more feminine. And it’s easy to take off at the end of the day. My last mascara would cling and clump so badly to my lashes that I could hardly clean it off, and it would actually pull some of my eyelashes out with it when removed. Ugh.

This is a good mascara for women with sensitive eyes or contact-lens wearers. I have extremely sensitive eyes and have not experienced any irritation in my 2 weeks using the product.

I would recommend this mascara to anyone. For the price, results and ease of application it is definitely worth it. I’ve tried the higher-end mascaras (Clinique, Stila, MAC, Lancome, etc.) but this simple Avon innovation trumps them in all areas.

The single drawback is that it is only available through your local Avon lady. If only I could pick it up at the drugstore!

  1. Yeah, you know I don’t like the whole door-to-door sales type of thing, but I really love Avon!

The majority of their products live up to their modest promises, the quality is decent and the selection and price is right. My mom and I have been using them for years, and I’m tempted to become an Avon Lady myself!

I was just really impressed with this mascara. Bad mascara is a pet peeve of mine, so finding one that I actually enjoyed putting on–I just had to write about it!

  2. Thank you SO MUCH. I have been increasingly p*ssed off with my mascara (Cover Girl) and now I know what I’ll try. Thank you again!!

  3. Mama: Glad I could help! I love spreading the word about great products, because I rely on other people’s recommendations for things myself.

    Gotta love word-of-mouth!

  4. My friend works for Avon and I finally gave Super Shock a try. I have EXTREMELY sensitive eyes and have tried SO many mascara’s on the market (Lancome is good but bad on the budget) most other mascara’s make my eyes red at the end of the day, even ones that claim to be hypoallergenic and safe for sensitive eyes.

I was reluctant to try but when my friend was raving about it, seeing in her box a handful of them just for her, I tried it and fell in love! I wore it for 14 hours one day and didn’t get red eyes. SHOCKED. And it comes off so easily, in the shower.

But because it’s not waterproof it does get on my eyes below, but I’d rather wipe it off with a q-tip than use a mascara that makes my eyes red.

    Thanks for your perfect review.
