Bad News At Work

I found out recently that we’re not getting raises this year.

My boss said that it is due to the economy however they hope that this freeze will only be temporary.

It doesn’t really make me feel any better.

I was supposed to have a salary review back in July; I even did all the little “projects” they gave me in my 3 month review so that I could get the raise, but we never even did my review. Same thing at the year mark, which was November for me.

I knew that March was when raises would be released to everyone in the company and was banking on getting something good, but that has been effectively dashed against the rocks.

I know you’re probably thinking “Well, at least it’s better than a paycut or losing your job!”

Fine, it is, but it still stinks.

Yes, I can still get by on this salary right now, but I’m really not comfortable. It’s still difficult to save or do some of the fun things I want to do. I really just need more money.

I don’t know whether I should look for a part time job to make some extra cash. I like the idea but then I’d have to work all the time. I don’t know if I have the flexibility in my schedule, or even the energy for a second job; and would the exhaustion be worth it for minimum wage?

I’m just really bummed.

  1. SUCKY! but, as others will probably say, at least you have a job. i know that doesn’t really help though ๐Ÿ™

if it makes you feel better i haven’t gotten one in 1/5 years, nor any bonuses that were promised then too! although, i prob. get paid more than i should anyways….but still ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. That does suck, but I got laid off last week, which in my opinion sucks more…I win. Be lucky you still have your job.

  3. I’m not going to say what the others have. I did want to say that I think taking a part time job would be kinda dumb unless you are really focusing on saving for a specific goal. Because you don’t have debt, you don’t really need to be working ALL the time, plus as you said you want the money so that you can have more fun, but if you’re working all the time, you won’t have time to have more fun! Did that make sense? I think if you can tough it out, hopefully things will turn around in a year or so. Or, the other option is, look for a better paying full time job. But thats just my opinion, if you are saving for something and you want to save faster, then go ahead and start looking for another job.

  4. Same situation @ my work. We were told in December that we would not be getting raises for 2009 which sucks because I great 2008 and it seemed like all that hard work was for nothing.

  5. I’m sorry to hear you won’t be rewarded for all your hard work. I hope you are still getting lots of loot bags and other job perks!

  6. I’m sorry, it does suck when you were really anticipating the extra money. I hope you find some cheap, fun activities in the meanwhile.
