Birthday Books

Well, my birthday week is officially over now. I’ve had my birthday, my party, and the requisite parental visit bringing things to a close.

Everything went surprisingly well this year. Could this be signaling a fresh start to my life? I hope so.

I’ll detail the rest of my week later perhaps. Right now I just wanted to make a list of the books I have received recently. It’s crazy! I love reading (and everyone knows this) but I’ve got enough reading material here to challenge even a bookworm of my status!

Since Christmas I have received the following:

The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Classic Regency Romance – Now with Ultraviolent Zombie Mayhem!

Jane Bites Back: A Novel

Vows And Honor #1 Oathbound

Vows And Honor #2 Oathbreakers

Oathblood

Traveling With Pomegranates

Shoo, Jimmy Choo!: The Modern Girl’s Guide to Spending Less and Saving More

This list doesn’t even cover all the other books I have received through swaps or borrowed from friends this month!

Looking at the list I also noticed an odd trend… it seems that I am attracting quite a few books dealing with Jane Austen and the supernatural (zombies, vampires). What does this say about me, I wonder?

  1. that's alot of zombie books. ^_^;
actually, if you're into zombies. you should check out a game: Plants vs Zombies.
Super cute. Bear got it for me and I'm totally addicted.

Hope you had a great birthday week. Did you decide on a dress yet?

    • I have not decided on a dress yet… This weekend I'm visiting my parents so I want to get my mom to take my measurements and then I can pick a dress…

The other thing is that I need to figure out shipping. They want $30 just to ship to Canada, so I'm going to see if it's cheaper to get it sent to my aunt in the US, then have her mail it up here. Otherwise I may have to wait til the summer to get my hands on it!

  2. That says you are awesome! I LOVED the Survival Guide! Also, zombies and vampires rock. Have you seen Lost Skeleton of Cadavra?? It's described by Wikipedia as a spoof of a 1950's B-movie, in black and white, and is absolutely hilarious – in my opinion, anyway. We've had people come over and made them watch it with us who didn't get it at all, while we were laughing like crazy throughout, LOL. I think you might like it! 3. The survival guide is great, but his second book, World War Z, is even better. It's a fictional oral history of the zombocolypse. Great stuff. And I also got the Austen/zombie book for the holidays. We should do a book club reading! :3

PS – That same company has put out "Sense and Sensability and Seamonsters", and "Android Karenina" is in the works!

    • We SHOULD do a book club reading! How awesome would that be? There are actual discussion points in the back of P&P&Z to get us started!

I can't wait to get my hands on World War Z and the other books in the collection. Ditto for Sense & Sensibility & Sea Monsters. That'll be a hoot!

  4. Do you have a wish list or do those that buy for you really know what you like? I prefer gift cards for books as I don't trust others' taste, especially when it comes to my books! Happy reading 🙂

    • The Zombie Survival Guide and the Oath books were on my list, but everything else was selected for me!

I generally prefer gift cards too, but I think people get tired of giving them. My friends & family enjoy seeing the physical book being unwrapped and the reaction; it's a lot more satisfying!

I'll read anything but I'm definitely lucky that most of the books I received are something I would pick for myself!

    • Thanks!

I haven't actually read it yet… The author sent me a copy for review and I just received it. Once I get through a couple of the other "fun" books I'll take a spin through it and write a post!
