I love vinyl wall stickers. Oh yes.

I just can’t help myself, I’m in love with the wall stickers over at Loomis/DeSerres.

There’s a shop right near my office and I walked by the other day and caught my eye on their window display. I went in and picked up a booklet on all the designs available and now have sticker lust in the worst way! (What is it with me and vinyl stickers on random objects like my laptop?)

Since my new roommate and I want to make our place more homey, we’re looking at ways to decorate. So far we’ve painted our TV/guest room a light cream colour, and we’ve picked up some art to hang on the walls. We’re still deciding where to put the art though, since we’ve got weird walls in the apartment.

I found out that the sister of one of the girls at work works there and can pick up our decals for 30% off, so it makes them way more affordable! I’m seriously considering quite a few… if you judge by my blog layout I’m sure you can figure out which ones I fancy…

These are some of my top choices, though I can’t say for sure if they’ll make the cut!

Countryside, $44.95

Japanese Cherry Tree $44.95

Small Tree $47.95

Birds and Buds $47.95

Flower Fan $47.95

Birds $19.95

Butterflies $32.95

Arabesque $44.95

Rococo $44.95

They’ve got even more choices on the website. I’d say there’s definitely something for everyone! My only question is whether they are easy to apply/reapply?

*sigh* I love decorating!

I Kissed A Girl

…and I liked it!

I’m totally digging Katy Perry right now, I heard her song at a party this week for the first time and it was catchy!

Music vid isn’t the best but it’s kind of cute:

I like a lot of her other stuff too. She’s got a unique voice and some punchy lyrics and subjects. I also love her style, I’ve been trying to incorporate more of the romantic-yet-sassy pre-60’s era style into my own mix.

Wanna know the lyrics? Here you go!

This was never the way I planned
Not my intention
I got so brave, drink in hand
Lost my discretion
It’s not what, I’m used to
Just wanna try you on
I’m curious for you
Caught my attention

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chap stick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don’t mean I’m in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it

No, I don’t even know your name
It doesn’t matter
You’re my experimental game
Just human nature
It’s not what, good girls do
Not how they should behave
My head gets so confused
Hard to obey

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chap stick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don’t mean I’m in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it

Us girls we are so magical
Soft skin, red lips, so kissable
Hard to resist so touchable
Too good to deny it
Ain’t no big deal, it’s innocent
I kissed a girl and I liked it

The taste of her cherry chap stick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it
It felt so wrongIt felt so right
Don’t mean I’m in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it

You know, I think these are empowering lyrics. I mean, she’s got a point, girls are pretty cute and lovable. She describes us and makes us sound so scrumptious! I’ll admit that I have always wondered what it would be like to kiss a girl. I figure one of these days I’ll get drunk and adventurous and find out for myself!

Have you ever kissed a girl?

Did you like it?

SATC Event Review

OMG!! Twas A great movie, even for a non-fan like me!

We got to the theatre at 9:30am, signed in then grabbed our complimentary popcorn, drinks, coffee and pastries and headed in. As expected, the place was packed!

I will not reveal the details of the film, but bring some tissues for the dramatic moments, and prepare to be rocked by the awesome outfits!

Just about every scene had the ladies dressed in a different outfit. Some I thought were awful, but some were truly stunning. Anyone even remotely interested in SATC should definitely go see this flick. It was pretty long, but I felt that it had a proper beginning, middle and end, so all will leave satisfied 😉

The whole event was pretty low-key. I thought for sure they would have done something a little more special… but I guess since this movie screening was such a big deal to start with they didn’t have the budget to do anything else. Oh well, it was still good!

Well, I’m off to lunch at the newly-opened Spice Route restaurant (ooo fancy!) with a rep. Maybe I’ll do a review of it later?

Bitter Disappointment

Last night I had a coughing fit and my throat closed slightly.
This morning I woke up to swollen lips and intensely itchy skin.
I’m developing hives not only on my thighs and torso, but now my face, too.

So what are all these symptoms caused by?

Why an allergic reaction to the drug Minocin, of course. It’s an antibiotic prescribed for acne that I have just started taking again to help my skin.

Why am I so disappointed?

Because it seems I am allergic to it, and it was the only medication out there that cleared my skin up. Considering it may be life-threatening to continue treatment with it, I’m now stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I started taking it last year, and miracle of miracles it actually cleared my skin up. For the first time ever I wasn’t breaking out; my face was actually healing and I had nothing to pick at. I got compliments all the time, though people couldn’t figure out what had changed about me. I felt confident enough to reduce my makeup usage, and even go bare-faced on occasion. It felt incredible knowing that little pustules of grossness were no longer growing on my face and marring my complexion.

But after about 3-4 months of it, I started developing a bad case of hives. They were so itchy and uncomfortable, and just about everywhere on my body, and I was going nuts. Not long after there was an evening where my throat closed up a little, much like during allergies, or a cold or asthma. Then I started waking up with swollen lips and face, and my skin took on a blue tinge on occasion.

By this point I was getting pretty concerned, so I booked an appointment with my derm and started researching Minocin and its side effects. Suffice to say, it sounds like I was allergic to it (or something). The derm confirmed this.

I stopped taking it, and also stopped tanning (which I had been doing at the same time) and everything eventually cleared up. But boy, am I ever frustrated. My zits came back in full force, and I had the hives a couple of times again… months after the medication had left my system (Derm said it takes about a week) which leads me to think I may have been reacting to some other irritant at the time. (I have a lot of allergies).

So I decided to give it another go. Summer is coming up, and I can’t wear a lot of makeup in the heat. I would love to be able to go bare-faced all summer long. But it looks like that might not be happening anytime soon  After just 2 Minocin pills, I am experiencing all my symptoms again, in record time. I am hoping it’s just a psychological response (I’m worried about the symptoms and the worry is being channeled into a manifestation of the symptoms… a self-fulfilling prophesy) but I can’t be too sure.

I am afraid that if I continue taking the meds that I will go into anaphylactic shock at some point (not to mention being itchy like crazy!) but I am also unwilling to give them up in the hopes that my skin will clear up, and my body is just retarded and will get used to the meds. Stupid, I know. But I’m desperate.

I think what I am going to do is take another pill tonight and see if my symptoms worsen. If they do, then I’ll reconsider it. In the meantime I’m going to set up another appointment with the derm and do some research. I want to see if there is anything else out there that will help me. My hygiene is exactly as it should be, I take birth control for my skin, and there’s no way that I can take Accutane.

My options are pretty limited.

To anyone reading this that has suffered with acne, what worked for you? What meds should I ask my doctor about? I’m at my wit’s end with this.

I Wrote About YOU, Dear Bloggers!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything, and I feel guilty about neglecting my blog and readers! But I had good reason, this week has been crazy!

I’ll just do a quick update on things and hopefully I’ll be able to write some more posts this weekend, I’ve got a few topics I’d like to explore.

This week was crazy because my boss who is awesome is heading back to Australia :( and we’re trying to get the new gal up to speed on everything. We also just moved into a new office space, so getting organized and finding everything again has been a big task.

On top of that, I had a “challenge” to complete that was laid out in my 3 month review. I basically had to pick a topic and present it to my directors to prove that I could work on my own, meet a deadline, present and be comfortable with the information.

As bloggers, you’ll be interested to know that my topic was YOU! 😀 I did “A Blog Primer” where I explored the blogosphere and what makes a successful blog. One of my clients has a blog that it just languishing out there, so I tied it all in to how we could improve that blog.

I am happy to report, I had glowing reviews all around! They said I exceeded expectations and basically blew them away 😀 My boss said he would give me 10/10 for it, and my director said she’d write down all the positive comments to keep on my file. This is great news! I was very stressed about doing a good job on this. I want more money and they said in July I would have a salary review, this should definitely help my case!

Some more positive news is that on Sunday I had my Jenny Craig meeting, and have now lost about 10 lbs and 6 inches! Yippee! I don’t really care about the poundage, I’m more thrilled that I’m almost 2 sizes smaller than when I started. I’ve been holding off on spring/summer shopping for this reason, but I did purchase this dress:

And it looks awesome on me! :)
Well, we’re having a BIG going-away party for my boss today/tonight/into the morning, so I’ve got to run and grab some beer. Sometimes I really love working in advertising! Partying starts at noon!
Talk to you soon, folks!

What’s In Her Purse?

A while ago I was asked what kind of stuff (junk) I keep in my purse on a regular basis. I was out shopping today and purchased a new cheapie white purse and was transferring my stuff over, so I thought I’d take a photo to share with you all!

I’m pretty sure I’m a packrat, but you know what? I’m always prepared, so nyah!

So what is all that crap, you ask? Let me list it!

– Roots mega-wallet. My lifesaver! It holds so much, and all my many, many cards!

– Gum
– Eight (count ’em, 8!) lip products. I think I may have to purge a few… oi!
– Samsung cell phone
– Allergy pills
– Emergency Tylenol stash
– MAC cover-up
– Eye drops for allergy season and for dry eyes
– Pass card for work
– iPod Nano. Love it! It’s black but had never been outside of the ruff and tough case
– Vitamin B12 strips. Mmm, minty fresh!
– GoldBond hand cream. I don’t like it but can’t find a better cream that is that tiny
– CBC mini-notepad. Indispensible! I use this thing all the time. Used to have a Palm Pilot but paper works better!
– Pen (self-explanatory)
– Keychain with my swiss army knife and FRIES key sleeve… helps me identify the key to my inside apartment door quickly
– Clean & Clear blotting papers
– Almay pressed powder
– Hand sanitizer!

Needless to say I can’t use any of those cute little purses out there… but at least I’m not carrying one of those freaking Puma or Lululemon gym bags around as a purse! What up with that?

I also have a small green USB key I keep with me for work stuff, but it was in my computer while I was taking this photo.

I wonder what my purse contents say about me? Anyone want to hazard a guess?

To all the ladies out there: What do you keep in your purse? What kind of odd things do you keep, and how do you stay organized?

I’ve just started putting all my lip stuff, hand cream, etc. into a little baggie to keep it all together. The rest of the little bits go in the inside zipper pocket, and my iPod, keys and wallet float around the main pocket.

If I cart any more stuff around I think I might need to start carrying a duffle bag! eep!

Beauty Budget Challenge Update

So I’m participating in the April Challenge over at Krystal’s blog. This month I have challenged myself not to spend more than $60 on health & beauty products. I know that seems like a lot, but with spring here it’s time to refresh everything. And I’ve also been running out of some of the things I use regularly.

Anyway, I’m just over halfway spent on the budget and we’re on the 2nd last week of the month, so I think I’m doing well! I was at under $30 before, but this weekend I visited Wally World and picked up some toothpaste, deodorant, etc. I did manage to get some razors for free! Gillette Mach 3 was giving away coupons at the Bloor station not long ago so I scooped one up. I don’t need a pink razor to do my legs, a man’s will do just fine, thank you!

I think I’ve been doing pretty well in abstaining from purchasing new eye shadows, moisturizers, etc. so far. Because of that money pinch I was in for a while I definitely could NOT afford to be buying fancy new stuff. I think it was good for me though. Pinching my pennies has forced me to look at my existing beauty collection and I’ve found some things I didn’t even know I had! So I’ve been trying them out lately and I’m surprised at how well everything is working out.

I must admit however that I did go to a Geox shoes outlet sale this weekend with mom. I bought 2 pairs for about $120, but that’s a good deal to me since they’re such good quality (and will keep my feet dry!) and are usually much more expensive. I’m fairly certain they’re last year’s styles, but I don’t really care since they look good on me and will work with my wardrobe!

So that gives you a bit of an idea on how my spending is going these days. I finally got my tax return and GST cheques which I promptly threw into my savings, and also paid my credit card bill with. I’ll have to update my goal bars when I get home tonight. I also made a Jenny Craig cost spreadsheet to help me keep track of my spending on the program, and also to help me create cheaper menus each week. This will help me save even more money.

I guess spring cleaning fever really has hit me! I’ve been cleaning up my place, my body and my finances! Watch out summer, here I come!
